Acceptance Letter for Mission Call

I received my mission call today and I can’t really explain how excited I am to be called to serve in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission!

I have a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and am so eager to be called to serve as a full time missionary and be able to serve the Lord.

I have been serving for the last three years as a missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building working on the Saturday evening shift. It has been a great blessing in my life and has strengthened my testimony of the gospel and of the prophet Joseph Smith.

I am also pleased to be called as an “office specialist” and look forward to being able to use my secretarial and organizational skills while I’m serving as a missionary for the church.

I know from experience that not only will I be blessed as I serve this mission, but my family will also receive blessings from the Lord.

Thanks you so much for this opportunity – I look forward to a successful and happy mission experience.

Dad was older than most young men who are called to serve a mission. He was 22 years old when his mission call came. His mother was approached by someone they called "Uncle Ben Black"who told her that he would like to send one of her sons on a mission. Dad was the oldest son at home that was not married and so he was given the first opportunity to serve. He was called to serve in the Central States Mission which included several states. He served his mission in the Ozark's and truely served among the "Hill Billie's"

Dad told stories of sleeping in old cars parked in the yard that were crawling with bed bugs. One of the stories that I remember best is that he was served bottled squirrel for dinner and how strange that was. Dad served an honorable mission and was friends with one of his missionary companions for the remainder of his life.

He served as a Seventy in his ward for many years. Dad was a quiet man who said very little, yet when he spoke he had great wisdom.

Mom's mission included Texas and Lousiana. Her mission president was ElRae Christiansen who later became a general authority and whom she named her first daughter after. Mom was an excellent missionary who at times was given very difficlut sisters to work with, and she managed to become friends with them and encouraged them to work hard and be effective missionaries. Her love was in serving the children and they would organize "Little Meeting" in the branches and round up all the primary age children and teach them. Mom had a great love for her mission president and went to him for a blessing and counsel many years after serving a mission. Her love for the children lasted through all her life. She served as the Junior Sunday School Coordinator (primary) for many, many years. In her later years she was lovingly called "Grandma Carroll" by the children of the ward.
